It is ended. The muddy
old off-roader shoes can be returned to the cupboard for another
6 months (don't forget to wash 'em first). Or, if you can't face
that thought, just sling 'em in the bin.
The season ended with a
beautiful warm spring like morning in Havant. See, I told you
I'd make it warmer than last year. The numbers were down this
year, as the event clashed with some road race in Fleet. So it
was a chance for some of us to get higher up on points than we
are used to without those fast boys getting in the way.
Unfortunately, for us, we only had 4 men, so we were incomplete.
But the ladies turned up in full numbers (well done my laydeez).
But the same can be said for the other clubs, so our position in
the league table should remain unchanged at about midway.
The course was mostly hard
stony ground, punctuated by occasional "Soft" bits. But that was
more than made up by over a mile of continuous quagmire at
about 1/2 distance. This served to sap ones strength just before
the slog up the monstrous hill to the finish. And it was my
chance to get Barney back for splashing me earlier in the
season...Splat, Take that!..ooh beastly!
Anyway, Here's our results:
Men
33rd Doug MacLean
44th Paul Barnett
67th Bruce Humphries
72nd Hugh Bethell
Points = 216 (incomplete
team)
Ladies
6th Diane Byrne
8th Julie Humphries
22nd Cathy Stewart
Points = 36
Once again. May I thank
everyone who participated in this seasons events. And I hope to
see you all again on the start line in October....Until then.
that's all from me. have a good Summer seasons road racing and
things.
Signing off ...(Boo hoo!)...What
am I gonna do for 6 months?
Doug.
PS: I am still looking for
volunteers to help with the baggage lorries at the London
Marathon. Is anyone out there interested? I have about 4 bodies
so far. I require 24. Please let me know ASAP...
Race Report for
Stubbington Green Race 2007
Hi there All
The penultimate race of this seasons
series has now been run at manor Farm CP. Once again, we did get a men's
team (only just). But we were one short in the ladies team. The men's
team did quite well, with the first 4 coming in almost within 15 places
of each other. The team was lead home by Dave Carter who is still coming
back from his long absence, closely followed by Barney, who looked quite
strong from my point of view. He put on an extraordinary effort, passing
me on two occasions, he did avoid splashing me with mud this
time. I attempted to stay in touch despite twisting my my ankle half
way, and did make some ground within the last half mile. I had to
keep up the struggle as I was being chased and run down by Jon
Cooper who is also running strong, and an old associate Tim from
Basingstoke. We have been on each others heels all season. Diane Byrne
rompt home in 5th position with another good effort. There was a slight
change in the course this year, with an extra short climb inside the
last mile. But despite this, the leading group appeared to have been
sent on the old rough, oops! But it all evened itself out in the end.
The last hill never gets any easier.
Here's the results of this mornings
race:
Men:
30th Dave Carter
37th Paul Barnett
41st Doug macLean
46th Jon Cooper
80th Hugh Bethell
points: = 234
Ladies:
5th Diane Byrne
25th Cathy Stewart
points: = Incomplete
The last event will be at Staunton CP
on 11th March, hosted by Denmead Striders.
Please make sure you have this in
your diaries.
Cheers
Doug.
Race Report for Hart
Road Runners Race 2007
Hi there.
Crikey! What a turnout we had for the Event at Lord Wandsworth college this
morning..Must be a record. With a mens team comprising of 11 members.
The course itself was a little gem. A two lap circuit with plenty of unavoidable
mud, puddles and a whopping great mountain. Also there was plenty of single
track and eclosed bridleway, which made overtaking (for the fast guys caught at
the back) quite difficult. Well done to Hart Runners for finding a tough and fun
little circuit.
I surprised myself by running quite well, despite suffering a "dinking" cold,
and lack of training....It must have been my kind of circuit..
Oh, and look out..Dave Sherwood was armed with his camera again!
So, without much ado, here below are our team results.

Report for Farnham Runners Race 2006
Hey, Success (This
time)..
Venue Farnham, Bourne woods 17 December 2006
Yes, we managed to field a full team this time. 9 men, 4 ladies. Points on the
board at last. Even veterans of yester-years events surprised us and dropped in
(on their bicycles) and gave their support. well done lads. Nice to see you all
again.
The day was a dry, cold one. There were one or two more obstacles on the course,
courtesy of the forestry commission. But despite that, we churned out some good
performances.
So without much ado, here's our team results:
Men: (5 to score)
24th Elias Berhe
50th Doug Maclean
54th Tony Sharp
84th Paul Barnett
109th Chris Hooker
117th Mike Hayward
128th Hugh Bethell
150th Martin Hall
157th Dave Sherwood
Ladies: (3 to score)
7th Diane Byrne

Mens score= 321, ladies = 47 (Total = 368)

get stuck into them mince pies and Xmas puddings now. There are only two events
left. The next being On 21st January 2007, hosted by Hart Road runners (Venue
TBD).
Cheers all, and Merry Xmas.
Doug.

Hi there..
Race Report for
Portsmouth Runners Race 2006
Hi there..
I'm sure Portsmouth Joggers have added another hill into the course since last
year. Or maybe I was just tired from the Hampshire league race yesterday. It
felt hillier than ever. The conditions were quite greasy underfoot and spikes
would have been a good choice of footware. But apart from all that, it was great
to be out on such a fine autuminal morning getting even more tired, and in which
Barney showed his appreciation of me passing him by splattering me from head to
toe in mud...Ta Paul, you know I'm fond of the stuff!
In a reversal of the last race at Midhurst, we had the right quota of men this
time. But only 1 lady. This was due to the race clashing with the Hell Runner
event at Bordon in which all our ladies were entered. I bet that was a muddy
one!
Here's the results of todays efforts:
Men:
54th Jon Cooper
59th Doug MacLean
62nd Tony Sharp
74th Paul Barnett
160th Dave MacKenzie
Lady:
68th Harinda Boparia
Once again. Thanks go to those who were not doing the hell runner for turning
out and of course to the forever faithfull Roger for doing the team results...
The Next event will be on either the 10th of 17th December. I will let you know
as soon as Farnham Runners confirm. The venue will probably be Bourne woods
south of Farnham.
Until then. Cheers
Doug
Race Report
for Midhurst Race 2006
Hi everyone.
Apeal: Cummon Guys your club needs you.
We had a lack of men today (only 3) and a load-a ladies. So our team was
Incomplete. But despite that. It was a good day slogging through the Sand and
Mud of Ambersham common. The weather was perfect. The circuit was totally
different than that of yesteryear, though there were parts of it that seemed
familiar. It did turn out to be quite tough, especially on tired legs in the
last Mile (like mine). Every muddy bit appeared to sap the strength clean
away...Made me grovel anyway.
Our team was strengthened this year by the return of Dave Carter who has not
been eligable to run in the last few years, but became eligable this season. He
romped home in 22nd place. And the Ladies team scored well with Lindsay Gannon
leading them home in 7th place. But again, the ladies really needed the support
of you guys... Hint, Hint!
Here is the full team results:
Men:
22nd Dave Carter
51st Doug Maclean
99th Chris Hooker
(We needed 5 men to score - hence No league position)
Ladies:
7th Lindsay Gannon
11th Diane Byrne
16th Sandra Houghton
28th Sheena Robertson
47th Harinder Bopari
61st Michele Thrower
(1st three score )
The next Event will be on Sunday 12th November, Hosted by Portsmouth Joggers.
Venue TBD (But probably Queen Elizabeth Country Park).
This event is the day after the Hants league race at Goodwood. So my legs will
be tired. So, I could really do with some strong guys up there to get them there
points for me...
Thats me for now...So you guys. Get that date in your Diaries now, and give them
Laydeez a run for their Money...
Doug Mac.
